  • Thai Foot Massage

Thai Foot Massage is part of Traditional Thai Massage practices which originated in Thailand around 2000 years ago. Thai medicine uses meditation, herbs and massage to heal at all levels.

Thai Foot Massage is a massage of the feet, legs and hands which relaxes and soothes tired muscles and aching joints and balances the subtle energies to bring general wellbeing. It uses the ten major energy lines of the body which run from the top of the head all the way to the soles of the feet and to the hands. The energy lines end in pressure points on the feet which make up a complete map of the entire body and all its organs. Thai Foot Massage manipulates these different points to stimulate the body and mind and restore balance to the person.

Thai Foot Massage is great for runners and athletes as it is a massage of the feet and lower legs, giving a much more extensive treatment than western reflexology. It is a good addition to a sports therapist's skills or for coaches.

Thai Foot Massage heals physically and emotionally as well as spiritually. How does it work on the physical level? As with other types of massage, Thai Foot Massage increases blood flow and lymphatic drainage and this helps move waste products toxins out of the body via the elimination systems. Reiki-energy Thai Foot massages include the use of oils and other Thai-style products to soften the skin and pamper the feet. Thai Foot Massage works on the emotional and spiritual levels by stimulating the pressure points of the feet and hands, and stimulating the energy lines (sen) in the legs to produce a balanced flow of energy.

Following a Thai Foot Massage, you will feel centred and grounded. The aim of Thai Foot Massage is to enhance your physical and emotional state and aid your spiritual growth by keeping you balanced at the energetic level and relaxed at the physical level. Thai Foot Massage may bring you a number of benefits:

  • Relieve stress and tension
  • Help insomnia
  • Relieve mental fatigue
  • Help remove anxiety
  • Improve the circulation in your legs, hands and feet
  • Reduce the chances of developing rheumatic and arthritic problems in your feet
  • Stimulate lymphatic drainage
  • Boost your immune system
  • Improve flexibility in your feet, hands and legs
  • Relieve tiredness in the legs and feet, leaving them refreshed

    Reflexology

Reflexology brings balance to the whole person, and has major benefits for the feet themselves.

The session opens with a full consultation to find out how you are feeling overall at the moment and what issues you want to address in your session. This is your chance to ask questions and clarify any issues you have.

Your feet are soaked in warm water (or cool, on hot days) containing an organic, cruelty-free product to gently cleanse and relax them. The reflexology itself starts with a de-stressing, blissful massage to prepare the feet for the reflex work which follows.

The session will cover all of the reflex points on the feet, which map the whole body - we aim at bringing relaxation, balance and harmony to you at all levels. Depending on what you have talked about in your consultation, time will be spent on the reflexes which relate to your personal issues.

Your reflexology session will end with a gentle massage and energy work to close down the reflexes and bring you gently back.

Indian Foot Massage - Padabhyanga with the Kaashi bowl

The Kaash Massage Bowls are made of a special metal mixture, called kaash. This consists of an amalgam of copper, zinc and tin. The health benefits of Kaash are due to the unique blend of metals which are said to have healing properties in Ayurveda.

Copper is said to help lessen the pain and inflammation for clients with painful complaints such as arthritis. Zinc is important in vital functions such as the immune and digestive systems, and tin is another metal which Ayurveda says is helpful in promoting healthy digestion, as well as aiding everyday problems such as headaches and insomnia.

Ghee or oils chosen to help harmonise the client’s balance of doshas play an important part in the treatment as they provide lubrication as well as moisturising the feet.
Like many Ayurvedic treatments, this beautiful foot massage is simple to do and yet incredibly complex in its potential to increase wellbeing and promote balance! Foot massage is always a relaxing therapy but the Kaash bowl gives this foot massage a number of added benefits:

Helps tone the foot muscles, which makes for an incomparable feeling of lightness. If you have regular massage with the Kaash Bowl your weight will fall evenly and correctly on the soles of the feet, aiding your posture and bringing greater comfort and gracefulness. You will walk with a lighter step, and feel rejuvenated.

    Helps reduce stress

Stimulates the marma points and reflexes of the foot

The ghee, balm or oil used moisturizes the feet, preventing cracking and discomfort

In Ayurvedic thought, the Kaash Bowl massage is said to stimulate the metabolism and have a relaxing effect on the eyes because it balances the energies of the marma points and reflexes

The Kaash Bowl Massage is given with ghee and this has a balancing effect on the Pitta Dosha which means the treatment gives a cooling effect in hot, sunny weather

In winter the Kaash Bowl foot massage is done with warm ghee or oil and helps warm the feet and comfort the whole person

Traditionally, the Kaash Bowl massage is done in the evening before you go to bed and is said to promote deep, restful sleep

Your one-hour treatment includes a full consultation and dosha analysis. You oils or ghee are selected to suit your dosha type and your personal preferences. Essential oils can be included in the blend.
